Who is Street Saint?

Street Saint is a multifaceted entity.  Trying to describe just who I am and what I do is difficult in just one page.  The best way to find out about me is to browse through my blogs and get a sense of my work that way.  However, for the sake of brevity, here’s Street Saint in a nutshell.

Philosopher

First off, I am a philosopher.  I spend a lot of time thinking about the world and just how it works.  I focus on societal issues, world-wide controversies, health, wellness, personal development, and a host of other topics.  Sometimes I come up with solutions to problems, other times I provide a list of alternate ways to consider the issues, and still other times I simply bring up an issue I feel is not often talked about.  Most of my philosophical/psychological content is posted on my Philosophy Blog.

Circus Artist

Secondly, I am a circus artist and physical performer.  I have training in a number of circus arts (including trapeze, silks, juggling, acrobatics, and slackline) and other performing arts (including gymnastics, stage combat, and theater).  I occasionally perform in venues as well as on the street, but I also enjoy teaching.  My performance and circus-related content is posted on my Performance Blog.

Boston Circus Arts Examiner

I am also the official Boston Circus Arts Examiner for Examiner.com. I publish articles on the topic of circus arts, primarily relating to the Boston and greater Boston area. Click on the icon to the right to visit my author page and see my articles.

What is a Street Saint?

I chose “Street Saint” as my moniker because it refers to a savior or guardian who protects and aids others on the street level.  In other words, a street saint is anyone who is looking out for the interests of those in his/her community.

I like to think of myself as a person who looks out for the interests of the people around me.  I generally live by Robert L. Humphrey’s “Warrior Creed:”

Wherever I go, everyone is a little bit safer because I am there.

Wherever I am, anyone in need has a friend.

Whenever I return home, everyone is happy I am there.

Humphrey, a Marine Rifle Platoon Commander on Iwo Jima, suggests that a true warrior does not use his/her abilities to manipulate or oppress others.  Instead, true warriors use their strengths to protect those they care for and those around them.  I adopt this way of thinking and use all of the skills I obtain and develop to help protect and look out for those who cannot protect themselves.

In this way, Street Saint’s Creed extends further than the Warrior Creed because it does not refer only to the abilities a soldier might have, but any practitioner.
